Eye Exams & Glasses in The Woodlands and Spring

Our 3-year-old Autistic daughter needed an Eye Exam. I cannot recommend this place enough. We had to wait a couple of weeks for availability with a particular provider that specializes in Exams on smaller children, but it was SO worth it. Muriel Martinez, OD and her entire team are absolutely incredible! Our Daughter previously had an eye exam due to concern about her eyes not properly aligning where they prescribed her glasses and said her vision was pretty poor. COME TO FIND OUT, at this appointment, that was entirely not true. We couldn’t figure out why our Daughter wouldn’t wear her glasses, and thought it was either the Autism (totally fair), or if she couldn’t see. Turns out, it was due to the poor eye exam and improper prescribing. Muriel Martinez, DO, did the most comprehensive exam I’ve ever seen on a 3 year old and really helped us understand exactly what was going on with our daughter. The tools that were used during the exam were perfectly age appropriate and engaging and included tools that had me, a previous Career Nanny, wondering why exams aren’t always done like this for children. The front desk staff, techs, and provider were genuinely so accommodating and friendly and helped our daughter avoid a meltdown by allowing us time and offering communication that worked best for our daughter through every step. She used a Scribe during our visit to note everything she was seeing in the exam, and I truly think this level of attentiveness leads to the best result. Nothing was missed, and everything that was observed was immediately noted so nothing was missed. If you have a child on the Spectrum, or a child that is younger you are worried won’t tolerate an exam, a visit with Muriel Martinez, DO needs to be your first and last stop. We left with no needed prescription for our daughter and a plan for the future so we can follow up routinely. They also have a “treasure box” full of goodies for the kiddos afterward and our daughter had a very hard choice choosing from all the good rewards. 10/10.
